The beach town of Treasure Island has 3 miles of WIDE, sandy beaches on the Gulf of Mexico. Treasure Island's name was established in the 20th century after a hotel owner “discovered” wooden chests on the beach. The buried chests were buried by local hotel owners around 1915. News spread quickly and people started calling the area Treasure Island. Babe Ruth had a winter beachfront home on Treasure Island for his retirement. Treasure Island has a number of family-friendly hotels, restaurants and many 'fish famous' John’s Pass. You can also enjoy snorkeling, shelling, golf, swimming, and parasailing. Treasure Island has a unique retro-style island town for a slower lifestyle. Best sunsets in the area, and World-record Sand Castle competitions.
